KEYS THAT ARE POPULAR WITH GUITARISTS FOR TRANSPOSING INSTRUMENTS

Many modern church bands and pop bands are GUITAR DRIVEN. So as an instrumentalist playing a transposing instrument (sax, clarinet or trumpet) in a guitar driven band,it is very useful to know how a GUITARIST THINKS

A piano is a very intuitive instrument where intervals and musical ideas are easy to visualise. Most piano players have a good balance of theory, technical ability and reasonably developed ears.

By comparison a guitar is a very mechanical instrument where intervals, and musical theory is not always easy to visualise. Many guitarists can be very mechanical players, who learn chord shapes with little or no knowledge of the theory. As a result there are certain keys that guitarist tend to favor way above any other keys.

If you then as a transposing instrument learn these keys, it puts you ahead of your game when playing with guitarists.

THESE KEYS ARE……. C,D,E,G and A.

Here is you downloadable and printable chart of KEYS THAT ARE POPULAR WITH GUITARISTS FOR TRANSPOSING INSTRUMENTS in Bb and Eb

I have given you the major scale and pentatonic scale. I would suggest you download, print and laminate, and keep in your instrument case along with you downloadable TRANSPOSITION CHART. Then you have a quick reference when you rehearse with your band.

I would suggests you make this part of your daily practice for a few months until you can comfortably play in guitarists keys.
